Experimenting for my year long project.

Okay, I'm not letting the cat out of the bag yet, but I have decided on my year long project for the photo club. It is going to require a half picture of my face and a half picture of my mothers. She doesn't know it yet, but she is about to become a huge part of my project. So today I was experimenting with self portrait and editing. The resulting picture is just some practice for me. I'm not really all that happy with it, but I'll keep working in it. Any suggestions?

3:23PM: Trish's suggestion as a square cropping plus flipped horizontally:

You have beautiful eyes, Jayme...I love this self-portrait of you. I really liked how you made only your iris be in color with the rest of you in b/w (which emphasizes your eyes). I think you did an amazing job...self-portraits are very difficult. You asked for suggestions. OK. Here is mine: try cropping as a "square." I'm not sure I would like it any better, but would like to see the difference. Great job, Jayme. I can't wait to hear more of your project...it sounds interesting!

jayme,
this is an amazing self portrait.
i love that the only color is in your eye.the results are dramatic.
my only sugggestion is that you got slightlty more than 1/2 of your face.
terrific job!

Trish, do you mean so that there is no black to the right of the picture? That is sort of there for a reason, but I will try your suggestion and add the image to my blog. Thank you!
Bridget, where would you suggest that I end the clip, just below the eye? I'll try anything you think would make it better:)

Very cool images. I love them. Your eyes are beautiful and the images are very interesting/artsy. Great work here, the effort really shows!

Thank you for trying my suggestion, Jayme! I thought you might have had a reason for the blackness to the right of your face, but for me, the square cropping is more appealing. It makes your eye larger and more dominant as the subject. I LOVE IT!!! :-) P.S. Great idea to flip it, too!

Great self-portrait. I really like the square composition best. Even thought it sounds like you had a purpose for the negative space in the original image, it's distracting, I think because there's no really separation between your hair and the black background. The square, eliminating the background, really enhances your image. Nice job.
